St Anne's School History
Saint Anne's Catholic Primary School was opened in September 1970, with a total of 98 children on roll. There were 4 teaching staff along with the Head teacher.
Mrs Johnston is the third Head teacher of St Anne's, who succeeds Mrs Robinson and Mr Ward.
Over the years, numbers have steadily increased. In the early 1990's a mobile unit was sited on our school playing field, it now houses our before and after school club. A period of growth in the school now sees us with a roll of 210 school - aged pupils and 30 nursery children.
Over the summer holidays (of August 2019) we created our new Early Years Unit. In addition, our new staff and visitors car park was created, which improved the security and safety of our site. In 2021, we saw the completion of our new front entrance, which has enhanced the security and safety at school for all of our pupils and staff.
In the Summer of 2022, we started the building of our new fixed classroom (for Year 6) to finally have all year groups taught in the main school building this was a very exciting time for our school. In March 2023 we had the correct amount of fixed classrooms for our pupils. This is a fantastic achievement, with the governing body having a clear vision for the school.
In January 2024, the original single glazed windows were replaced in the school hall, this has resulted in the hall being a space that is easier to both heat/cool. Then in April 2024, the building of the MUGA (on the school field started). We took possession of the MUGA in May 2024, this is a wonderful resource that is loved by all pupils.
Summer 2024, sees all of the original heating system being replaced. We know that when the weather is cold, our old heating system was not fit for purpose, we are looking forward to a warm winter in 2024.
Our school is completely self - contained with its own hall (which also doubles as a well equipped gymnasium), school kitchen, dining hall, nurture/sensory room, 8 classrooms, cloakroom areas, Early Years unit, offices and staff room.
The building is surrounded by two large playgrounds (one infant, one junior), a large playing field and grassed areas. EYFS & Year 1 have their own outdoor classroom areas. We have recently developed a fabulous outdoor classroom, 'Woodlands Outdoor School' - this area is used by EYFS and KS1, and KS2 use it to enhance curriculum provision and to support groups of pupils. We now have a fully qualified Forest School teacher on the school staff, therefore we look forward to further developments of the outdoor school.
