Year 4 Homework
Homework
Weekly homework in Year 4 will be sent home on a Tuesday and should be returned the following Tuesday. Homework will focus on basic skills including the timetables, spellings and reading journals.
Homework will consist of:
Reading Journal Activities – 1 quality activity to be completed a week. Journals will be checked on a Tuesday. Please can you help your child, when selecting books from home, to make sure that they are reading a wide range of different genres. We also have many books to choose from at school. Your child will also need to record what reading they are completing at home.
Times Tables Rock Stars Sheets – The children should spend 10 minutes on TTRS each week. This can be little and often with a few minutes each day. As you are aware your child will be sitting a multiplication check test in June that will test their knowledge of times tables. By the end of Year 4 all children should know all of their times tables. It is therefore very important that the children are practising these on a regular basis.
Learn Its - Learn Its booklets consist of 5 sheets. Depending on what step your child is on, they will either have 30, 60 or 90 seconds to complete each sheet. Children will be tested on these each week and if they can complete the sheet in the allotted time then they will move to the next step.
Spellings – Spellings will now be completed on the ‘Look, cover, write, check’ sheets and will be tested on a Tuesday. If you fell that your child needs more practice then they can complete extra spelling activities such as:
- Pyramid Writing
- Rainbow writing - Write each letter in a different colour
- Squiggly writing
- Writing each word in a sentence
- Create crosswords/word searches for their words
Additional homework
Topic homework – This should be fun and will be set each half term, based upon our Humanities topic. Children can pair up or work independently. Be as creative as possible when it comes to presenting your ideas – no need to do this in a book unless you want it to look like a book!
Many thanks for your continued support and if you would like to talk to me at any point to discuss homework or academic progress, please feel free to get in touch.
