Vocations

An important part of Catholic Life at St Anne's is to ask ourselves what God is calling us to do. We need to find our 'vocation' in life.

What is a vocation?

A call… The word comes from the Latin word ‘vocare’ which means ‘to call’. Vocation, then, is about a call or a calling in people’s lives

A call from… The call from God. We believe that God has called people to play a particular role in his plan of salvation for the world.

A call for… Everyone, including you. Many people only use the term ‘vocation’ to talk about priests, monks and religious sisters. But the call is for everyone. We believe that God calls each and every person into existence and then calls us to be a living sign of his love for the world. We are created out of love and we are created to love.

A call to… This means that for Christians, a vocation is not just something that God calls us to do, it is also the person God calls us to be.

How can I discover my vocation?

What are the qualities you see in others that you would most like to have yourselves? What kind of person would you really like to be?

Thank you to one of our past pupils Father Stephen Fleming for celebrating Mass at school today in his first year of being a Priest. It was also great to welcome our Chair of Governors who is currently undertaking Deacon training at Maryvale.

We invite parents and family members into our school to share their vocation with the children

We are very proud that two of St Anne’s past pupils are currently Seminarians training to be a priest

Steven Fleming (currently at St Mary’s College, Oscott) and Toby Duckworh (currently at Venerable English College, Rome) both attended St Anne’s School as children. Did they hear their calling at St Anne’s?

Father Gwil celebrated 20 years as a Catholic Priest

In September 2020 we celebrated Father Gwil’s 20th Anniversary of ordination as a Catholic Priest. He came to school to say Mass for the Year 4 children to celebrate them making their First Holy Communion. There was a big surprise for him at the end of the Mass. Sister Lizzie, Michael Flower (Chair of Governors) and Mrs Johnston all said a few words about his vocation to the priesthood, the enormous amount of work he has done in the parish and the support he has given the children at school to further develop their Catholic faith. Unfortunately, due to current restrictions, this presentation was done with just the Year 4 class bubble and not the whole school as would normally be the case. However, the children in the rest of the school have remembered Father Gwil in their prayers. I’m sure he will enjoy the gifts given to him!
