Phonics in Year 2

In Year 2 we continue to follow the DfE approved Twinkl Phonics Scheme. 

Following the Year 1 Reading Check, those children who have not met the required reading standard will receive intervention sessions alongside the Year 2 programme to help the children acquire the skills needed to become confident readers.

In Year 2 children will review Level 5 before embarking on Level 6. The main aim for children is to develop their fluency as a reader and increase their accuracy when spelling. They will do this by learning alternative spellings and pronunciations and recalling when to use different graphemes, prefixes and suffixes for spelling.
