Governor News

2nd October 2020

Today we said a fond farewell to Mrs Twomey as she retires after 25 years leading our kids club. Mr Flower was on hand to offer a big thank you to Mrs Twomey for her time at St Anne’s and gave her a small token of appreciation from all the governors for her love, kindness and care over the years.

We have been successful in our bid for LCVAP funding of £120,000 to enhance our safeguarding at the main entrance of the school. We hope to be able to start work by half term. It will be invaluable in protecting our whole school community. Watch this space for more news and pictures.

Today Mr Dowd, One of our Foundation Governors, came to carry out a risk assessment and observe our morning socially distanced staggered entry process. He was very impressed that the staff, parents and children are continuing to support social distancing in line with government guidance and are all following the safety procedures set within the school’s COVID-19 action plan. Thank you to everyone for continuing to support these measures.

Today we celebrated Father Gwil’s 20th Anniversary of ordination as a Catholic Priest. He came to school to say Mass for the Year 4 children to celebrate them making their First Holy Communion. There was a big surprise for him at the end of the Mass. Sister Lizzie, Michael Flower (Chair of Governors) and Mrs Johnston all said a few words about his vocation to the priesthood, the enormous amount of work he has done in the parish and the support he has given the children at school to further develop their Catholic faith. Unfortunately, due to current restrictions, this presentation was done with just the Year 4 class bubble and not the whole school as would normally be the case. However, the children in the rest of the school have remembered Father Gwil in their prayers. I’m sure he will enjoy the gifts given to him!

Today we took delivery of the final purchase for our newly refurbished EYFS unit - a wonderful new wooden house to continue to enhance the outdoor experiences for the children. Staff from ‘Moo Angel’ (https://www.mooangel.co.uk/home) arrived first thing in the morning and spent over three and a half hours erecting this fabulous wooden house.

The children in both Reception and Nursery were very excited and spent much of the morning watching and waiting and we’re thrilled when the house was finally finished. As Reception got to play with the boat first, Nursery are going to be first to use the house.

Today we took delivery of a fantastic boat that has been purchased to enhance the refurbished EYFS outdoor area. The Reception children were having fun and playing with it within minutes.
